KTL-TRID1 is a tunable resonant inductive dipole manufactured to provide a large external magnetic field at its own resonant frequency starting from a very low input power. This magnetic field has measurable effects that spread in open air environment at distances several times larger than the dipole size.

A single KTL-TRID1 can be used to investigate how the two characteristic parameters; the resonant frequency and the corresponding quality factor, are linked to interactions with the environment (Conductive bodies in the vicinity will modify either the resonance frequency and/or the attached Q-factor). The simplest way to use a KTL-TRID1 device alone is to connect it directly to a signal generator and to measure the resulting over-voltage with an appropriate probe. Only low level measurements can be done with a standard probe. At higher level indirect measurements are possible with a small sensing coil structure  placed at some distance. For accurate voltage measurements, we recommend our specifically designed low cost high-voltage very low input capacitance probe KTL-PR1. Note that such experiments are 100% safe for the material and for the user because of the extremely small power level (typically 250mW or below according to the signal generator used) and the detuning effect of the user's finger when it gets close to the coil.

Two KTL-TRID1 can be used to make didactic demonstrations of inductive power transfer at some distance. The simplest way to use the two dipoles for wireless power experiments it is to connect the first one to a laboratory signal generator and the second one to a load (A resistor, a LED or a more sophisticated device can be used as loads). Combined to a higher power generator and appropriate impedance tuning adapters (coming soon), the KTL-TRID1 will allow larger power transfer levels and ranges. Power levels can be up to a few Watt and ranges up to several decimeters if well tuned. At large relative distances, available power will drop rapidly in any case. If well tuned enough power will remain at a few decimeters distance to feed a LED, a sensor board, micro-power motors even if a basic signal generator is used for the power input.
